Sea of Cortez and Northern Baja Diving/Eco Expedition 2018: Enseneda to Bahia de Los Angeles

September 19 – 24, 2018

Journey with us through towering mountain ranges and a picturesque desert to the turquoise waters of Bahia de Los Angeles! You will gasp at the sight of some of the world’s tallest cacti speckled all over the vast Sonoran desert. We will descend from the mountain ranges into the indescribable view of Bahia de Los Angeles, a secluded gem on the Gulf of California coast. There we will snorkel with numerous whale sharks, and dive in one of the most biodiverse bodies of waters in the world, which Jacques Cousteau called “The Aquarium of the World.” The marine ecosystem in the Sea of Cortez is a unique combination of subtropical and temperate waters, with over 90 species of reef fish found nowhere else in the world. For years, there has been no reliable diving operation in the upper Sea of Cortez, and the Ocean Safari team will be one of the first group to venture here.

We have a coach transfer from Los Angeles to Ensenada, where we will spend our first night. The second day will be a guided road trip with a naturalist who will explain the significance of the ecology, flora, and fauna of the various ecoregions we encounter on our way to Bahia de Los Angeles. During our stay, we will be accommodated in authentic Baja style casitas in this charming fishing village. Led by local dive guides, we will spend three days diving the spectacular Sea of Cortez off of pangas. We will see the pristine marine ecosystem that is not often explored because of this hard-to-get-to location. You’ll encounter a unique combination of tropical fish, rays, and invertebrates as well as familiar Californian life such as sea lions, sheephead, and spiny lobster. Best of all, we will be swimming side-by-side with whale sharks! On our last day, we will travel back on a different route, allowing us to bask in beautiful scenery not yet seen before, completing our circular road trip. After another authentic dinner in Ensenada, we will have a coach transfer back to Los Angeles.
