Raising Banners

We enjoyed our dives at beautiful French Polynesia. On this dive, we were welcomed by a school of longfin bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus) as we descended down the clear, blue water to the coral reef.

A Couple of Show Offs

A couple of California sea lions playing with each other among giant kelp. I wonder if they think we are just very awkward and slow sea lions...

Almost Weekend!

The weekend is almost here. I’m already dreaming of jumping into the blue water and descending to the rocky reef. There, among the giant kelp and fish, the stress of daily life just melts away

This Fish is Always Around

The ever present garibaldi (Hypsypops rubicundus), our state marine fish, know they are protected. These fish will aggressively protect their territory. They are known to dart out of the rock to chase off divers, and even nip at those who fail to take the hint.

Safety Stop Activity

Here is another image of the diver looking at norris’ top snail (Norrisia norrisii) on giant kelp. Looking for little creatures hiding among the kelp is one of our favorite things to do during the safety stop.
